    Types of Magnetic Therapy Products

There are a wide assortment of biomagnetic products depending on a person's needs. This article contains a brief description of some of the more common types of magnet therapy products and their uses.

    Medical or Spot Magnets

These individual medical, or spot, magnets can be affixed to any part of the body using various methods including surgical tape, adhesive or elastic bandages, or wraps. Spot magnets can be applied directly over any areas to be treated or, alternatively, can be affixed to acupuncture points.

    Ankle Braces and Wraps

Magnetic therapy ankle support products, such as braces and wraps, not only provide compression support for injured or weak ankles, but also apply magnetic healing to the ankle. These types of supports can be used for ankle strains, sprains, or generalized pain in the ankle due to injury or overuse.

    Shoulder Supports

Magnetic shoulder supports provide stabilization and support for shoulders and upper back, and also provide magnetic healing to these areas. Magnetic therapy shoulder supports can be used for painful shoulders and upper back for such problems as muscle pain, joint pain and swelling, and arthritic shoulder pain.

    Back Wraps/Supports

These types of magnetic wraps cover large areas of the body to be treated, and include a large number of magnets in order to apply a magnetic field across a broad area. These types of products can be used for all types of back pain, including strains, aching muscles, and pulled muscles.

    Knee Braces

Biomagnetic knee braces provide stabilization and compression for painful and/or injured knees, as well as surrounding the joint with a healing magnetic field. Magnetic therapy knee braces and wraps are utilized for a variety of knee injuries and conditions including strains, sprains, tendonitis, as well as osteoarthritis knee pain.

    Elbow Braces

Similar to magnetic therapy knee braces, magnetic elbow braces provide stabilization and support for injured and/or painful elbows and also apply magnetic healing to the joint. These types of magnetic products are utilized to treat various elbow-related problems such as tendonitis, strain, as well as arthritic pain.

    Bracelets

Magnetic therapy jewelry, including biomagnetic bracelets, are not only available in wide variety of fashionable and attractive types, but are also a convenient way to use magnetic therapy on a daily basis. These types of bracelets supply a constant magnetic field to the bloodstream, which may help to improve circulation, increase blood flow, and reduce pain.

    Necklaces

Similar to biomagnetic bracelets, magnetic therapy necklaces come in a variety of stylish and attractive types and styles, and also provide an easy way to utilize magnetic therapy every day. Like magnetic bracelets, biomagnetic necklaces supply a constant magnetic field over the body.

    Mattress Pads

Magnetic therapy mattress pads and mattress covers generally contain thousands of individual medical magnets, which then cover the entire body in a healing magnetic field while sleeping. These products are often used by people who suffer from chronic pain, especially back pain. Many people also use magnetic pads and covers as a holistic tool for better overall health.

    Massagers

Magnetic massagers are one of the newer magnetic therapy products, and they provide the benefit of allowing users to target specific areas of the body with magnetic fields. They come in a variety of types and strengths. Generally, the more powerful the magnetic field (higher gauss measurement), the deeper the penetration of the field will be. These massagers can be used for increasing blood flow and to treat pain in various joints and other areas of the body.

Magnetic Bracelets - an alternative therapy

For many thousands of years Lodestone, a naturally occuring magnet, was used in healing the body. Early writings in many different countries mentioned it and its healing properties. It was also mentioned that Cleopatra used a magnetic substance to help keep her youthful.

The oldest known use of magnets to promote health was used in potions, foods and topical applications. This can be traced as far back as 100,000 years. The magnetite used then was thought to be used in potions, foods and topical applications.

Other nations like Ancient Greeks, Hebrews, Arabs, Indians, Egyptians and Chinese races have used magnets for a therapy now called magnetic therapy or magnotherapy.

A very traditional theory has been combined with independent research and newer technology to provide magnets these days of high strength which can be used by people and animals effectively for many conditions.

Magnets are used these days in hospital& clinics worldwide and many tests and trials have been conducted on magnets and the human body with favorable results.

It is not fully known as how they actually work on the body but there are many theories, one of which is that they oxygenate the cells of the body, as the magnetic field passes through the blood.

This helps to promote healing of wounds and disease and speeds up recovery time. Magnetic bracelets are by far the most popular forms of magnetic therapy and are being sold all over the world in different shapes and sizes. They all promise the same effect but in different strengths. It is therfore important to choose magnetic bracelts which are not sold as cheap as their effectiveness is much lower than the more expensive ones.

Magnetic bracelets have proven through numerous independent trials that they help with osteoarthritis-researchers said that magnetic bracelets, worn by many for their supposed health benefits, do reduce the pain of osteoarthritis. This has been published in the British Medical Journal in Dec 04.

The researchers, from the Peninsula Medical School in Plymouth, found pain was significantly reduced in the patients wearing the standard magnetic bracelet compared to the dummy one.

There was little difference between the weak magnet group and those wearing the dummy magnets after 12 weeks of the study.

The researchers said: "Pain from osteoarthritis of the hip and knee decreases when wearing magnetic bracelets."

Some practitioners are even claiming magnetic therapy bracelets can promote anti-ageing. Just like Cleopatra kept a very youthful appearance we can do by wearing a magnetic bracelet. It is thought magnets encourage blood - containing iron - to the skin which stimulates collagen - a structural protein present in the skin which is essential for skin elasticity.

    Magnetic Therapy

Magnetic Therapy is currently considered to be an alternative medicine. Those who practice it believe that certain ailments can be treated if the patient is exposed to magnetic fields. Permanent magnets will generally be placed near the body, and it is believed that this procedure can reduce pain, allow the body to heal faster, and treat a number of other medical problems. Magnetic Therapy will typically be used for people who have problems with their backs or joints. The effectiveness of this therapy is currently not known, and most in the medical establishment currently view it as being a form of pseudoscience.

The practice of magnetic therapy has led to the growth of an entire industry. A number of products are sold for the purpose of healing those who use them. These products could range from bracelets to mattresses or blankets. While there is no concrete evidence that magnetic therapy has been used to effectively treat people, some in the medical establishment believe that it may work as a placebo in some who use it. Critics of magnetic therapy claim that most magnets don't have the strength to effect the various organs and tissues within the body.

In addition to this, few manufacturers have been able to effectively demonstrate the usefulness of their products. However, it should be noted that the field of magnetism is not well understood, and discoveries are constantly being made on a regular basis. Scientific studies have showed that magnetic fields do play a role in the migratory patterns of some birds, and being exposed to a magnetic field which is too strong can even be toxic. Given this research, there is a possibility that strong magnetic fields may play a role in the health of those who are exposed to them, but this remains to be seen.

Proponents of Magnetic Therapy often point out that magnetic fields which are exposed to the body can increase the circulation of blood due to the presence of iron within the hemoglobin. However, iron will lose its ferromagnetic properties once it becomes ionised. There are a number of websites online which sale magnetic health products, and it has grown into a large industry. Whether or not the use of magnets for healing is caused by the placebo effect, it has become an alternative medicine that many people use for healing purposes.

The use of Magnetic Therapy is not new. Paracelsus was a doctor and alchemist who lived during the 15th century, and he reasoned that if magnets could attract iron, they may also be able to have an effect on the various diseases that were present in the body. The current debate about Magnetic Therapy will continue until concrete evidence has been found to support it. With all the achievements that have been made by the medical community, they are limited in their knowledge and understanding. Magnetism is a subject that is not well understood, and the function of the human body and mind is extremely complex as well. It is possible that some link between magnetic fields and diseases may found in the future if sophisticated tools are developed.
